Matte White Freestanding Tubs

Matte white freestanding tubs are made from acrylic or stone resin with a smooth, non-glossy white finish. Matte white freestanding tubs are increasingly popular because they provide a beautifully soft, sculptural look that's more contemporary than regular glossy tubs.

Glossy tubs tend to show scratches and scuffs more easily, while acrylic or resin tubs with a matte finish are less likely to show surface damage over time and are easier to repair if minor scratches do occur. A matte white freestanding tub is also less likely to show fingerprints and smudges compared to a high-gloss tub.

These ultra-contemporary freestanding tubs have a flat matte white surface that provides a modern, elegant look. Matte White Stone Resin Freestanding Tubs

Most solid surface stone resin or poly-resin tubs feature a silk matte finish on both the interior and exterior, which provides a smooth, velvety appearance. The natural, seamless look of a matte white freestanding stone resin bathtub makes it a popular choice for high-end, modern minimalist bathrooms. Additionally, matte finishes are much easier to repair—scratches and blemishes can be sanded and buffed out more easily compared to a resin tub with a glossy gelcoat layer.

Matte White Acrylic Freestanding Tubs

Acrylic sheets can be manufactured with either a glossy or matte finish, though most acrylic sheets are naturally glossy by default. A matte finish is typically created through a specialized manufacturing or surface treatment process. If an acrylic tub has a matte white exterior but a regular glossy interior, it's likely that a matte coating was applied to the exterior surface of the tub after it was formed to achieve a flat, non-reflective appearance.

Freestanding Tubs with End Drain

A freestanding tub with end drain has the drain hole positioned at either the left or right end of the tub floor. Because this type of tub has the drain positioned at one end, it easier to align with existing plumbing—especially when replacing a left end drain or right end drain alcove tub. Because a freestanding tub is finished on all sides, you can usually rotate the tub to switch the drain orientation (left-to-right or vice versa), making the drain placement flexible. Therefore, most freestanding tubs with end drains are considered reversible end drain tubs.

Freestanding Tub with Reversible End Drain

Some freestanding tubs are classified as having a reversible end drain, meaning the drain orientation can often be changed during installation simply by rotating/reversing the direction of the tub. This is possible because freestanding tubs are finished on all sides. This flexibility allows for either left- or right-hand drain placement. A freestanding tub with reversible drain can often be easiest to install in place of an existing alcove tub that has an end drain because you can adjust the drain orientation to align with the existing plumbing. This flexibility helps reduce the need for extensive plumbing modifications.

A freestanding tub with integrated end drain is a standalone bathtub where the drain and overflow system is built into one end of the tub shell. A built-in push pop-up drain and overflow system can help simplify installation.
